Marieke: "When I look around, I see mostly the vulnerability of human beings. And also the enormous strength that can arise when people are connected with nature. I try to capture this by making work where recognition and alienation touch. I give the idea a mystical charge by using methodes like fading, transparency and layering. The veiled view and small changes in the image evoke a melancholy atmosphere."
To transfer this into her work, Marieke uses photography, painting and silkscreen as her main techniques with ceramics, linen or wood as underlay.
'See me' is a multiple (total 500 pieces). They were made in response to an exhibition about Jeroen Bosch that was organized by The Grafish Atelier from Den Bosch last year. For this work, Marieke was awarded a prize for 'The best Graphical Work'.
